Age » IntroductionIntroductionThe Northern Ireland Act 1998 requires public authorities to carry out their
statutory functions having due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity
across what is now commonly known as the nine section 75 categories, which includes
Age. All the nine Section 75 categories are about people and are intended to reflect
positively on the diversity, differences and multiple identities that we all have.
In this section some information on age is provided and also hopefully some challenges
to the stereotypical images we may have when we think of persons in different
age groups. The information has been grouped into two sub sections: Older People
and Younger People.
In reviewing the contents of this section it is important to have an understanding
of 'ageism' and to consider how it may be perceived by individuals when using
our services.
