The proportion of adults reporting a long-standing illness increases with age. For 2000/2001, the Continuous Household Survey shows that 75% of women and 72% of men over age 75 are affected (figures for all age groups being 36% and 33% respectively). These figures are not surprising, due to the natural ageing process.
