Health and Social Care

There appears to be little information on health and social issues of people who are single (never married)

However, the following issues should be taken into account:

  • Lack of emotional/physical and practical and psychological support from a partner

  • Loneliness and social isolation may be a factor which prevents some single/never married people from accessing health and social services

  • Lack of social networks may hinder communication on health and social care issues

  • There is an expectation that unmarried family members, particularly females, provide care for their elderly dependant relations
