Carers of Children

''I couldn't have coped without PAC listening to me''

''You have helped me to see that I don't have to mow my lawn in straight lines. I can plant flowers and enjoy my garden''

''Great to know someone is there for me''
(Source: Parents Advice Centre. Annual Report 2001 – 2002)

Let me grow up as I am
 Try to understand that I need to be as I am;
 Not how my mother wants me to be
 Nor how my father hopes I will be,
 Nor how my teacher thinks I ought to be.
 Please try to understand me and help me grow up like this, just as I am.
 Anonymous poem from Brazil

Other Carers

Mr. A is sixty-eight. Mrs. A had a stroke in 1981 and now needs constant care. “Caring for my wife followed naturally after the stroke. I took a little time to adjust but I wanted to do it and it was my duty as a husband”

Mrs. B is in her seventies. Her husband had had a heart condition for many years but his health deteriorated sharply two years ago. Mr.B needs help with everything. Mrs.B undertook the caring naturally and never questioned it. I wouldn't have it any other way and want to look after my husband for as long as I can”

Mrs. D's son has a physical and a learning disability. After the birth Mrs.D had wanted to bring him home as soon as possible so that I could care for him”
