Worship

Jewish people should pray three times daily – morning, afternoon and evening – with additional prayers on Sabbath and festivals. The Jewish Sabbath is on a Saturday (actually from Friday dusk to Saturday nightfall) as a reminder of God's day of rest following the creation of the world. It is a day of family celebration and prayers, and the Friday evening Sabbath meal is of central importance. Corporate worship is centred around the synagogue which is governed by its congregation and normally led by a rabbi. In Orthodox Judaism most of the synagogue service is conducted in the ancient language of Hebrew.
